Video Active has successfully participated in the First EDLproject Workshop on developing the European Digital Library. It was held at the Austrian National Library, Vienna (27-28 November 2006).
Contributing to the preparation of the European Digital Library, EDLproject aims to provide a framework for dialogue with other 2005 call eContentplus projects about a possible participation in a network based on The European Library. This first workshop provided a forum for members of EDLproject and other eContentPlus projects to reach a first understanding of possible cooperation scenarios and to outline a time plan for next steps.
As one of the major results, it was decided to integrate the Video Active metadata in the infrastructure of the European Library. An exiting prospect in the light of the European i2010: Digital Libraries Initiative of the European Commissioin. Video Active looks forward to a fruitful collaboration with the EDLproject. More news will be posted on this website.
About The European Library
The European Library (www.TheEuropeanLibrary.org) is a portal for accessing the digital collections of 21 of the National Libraries of Europe. The European Library is owned by the conference of European National Librarians (CENL) (www.cenl.org) and aims to access
digital collections from all 47 member libraries within the next 5 years.
EDLproject (www.edlproject.eu/) is a Targeted Project funded by the European Commission under the eContentplus Programme and coordinated by the German National Library. The project, started in September 2006, will work towards the enlargement of the bibliographic catalogues and digital collections which are available in The European Library. EDLproject also addresses the enhancement of multilingual capabilities of The European Library portal and takes first steps towards collaboration between The European Library and other non-library cultural initiatives.
